Astrid’s Song Inspired by Marilyn

Norwegian singer Astrid S is the latest pop starlet to evoke Marilyn, NME reports.

“Speaking about the new track, Astrid S said: ‘To me, an empowered woman is a woman who lives their life the way she desires to, that aligns with her chosen purpose in life, who is grateful for the possibilities she’s been given. She takes responsibility for staying educated, stands up for herself and for others. To me, the most empowering feeling is to be kind to myself and the people around me. I felt empowered making “Marilyn Monroe” and I want anyone who’s listening to it to feel like they can be whoever they want to be without the fear of being judged… I wanted to make a song that you can sing and dance along to but also makes you feel strong, confident and proud.'”

And here’s a sampling from the lyrics…

“If I show a little bit more skin
Already know what you’re gonna think
Don’t tell me what I’m gonna do, what I don’t
I will decide what I will, what I won’t

Is it like Marilyn Monroe
If I wanna do it on my own?
Don’t tell me what I’m gonna do, what I don’t
I’m gonna do it the way I want

If I slept with a hundred guys
You’d think it’s a crime
The less I wear, the more you criticise
I’m just a thing, ain’t I?

My lips are a little bit more red
But that doesn’t take away what’s said
Don’t tell me what I’m gonna do, what I don’t
I will decide what I will, what I won’t

Is it like Marilyn Monroe
If I wanna do it on my own?
Don’t tell me what I’m gonna do, what I don’t
I’m gonna do it the way I want …”
