Marilyn and Betty Grable’s ‘Bombshell’ Double Bill

In what promises to be a bonanza of the Fox Blondes, The Seven Year Itch (1955) will be screened on a 1956 Kodak Pageant AV154 Projector at the Rivoli Ballroom on Brockley Road in Crofton Park, South London, with doors opening at 7 pm tomorrow (Thursday, February 2), heading up a new season of movies from the Golden Age of the 1930s to 1950s and beyond.

Marilyn’s comedy classic will be followed by the wartime musical, Pin Up Girl (1944). Leading lady Betty Grable was, of course, a major influence on Marilyn, and the two stars became firm friends when they worked together on How to Marry a Millionaire (1953.)

Following this ‘Blonde Bombshell Double Bill’ – with both films in glorious Technicolor – the evening ends with music and dancing from ballroom to latin and swing. It will be interesting to see the parallels between the two movies, as future Some Like It Hot star Joe E. Brown was in the Pin Up Girl cast – and there certainly seems to be a full-skirted theme!
