Marilyn Brings ‘America’s Secret’ to Provence

Marilyn Monroe: America’s Secret, a new exhibition featuring photographs, clothing and personal items – and even a reconstruction of Marilyn’s bedroom – is now open until January 7th, 2024, at the Espace Hotel de Lagoy in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Southern France.

French superfan Mar Zaz shared a number of snapshots with Marilyn Remembered via Facebook.

Marilyn’s fishnet stockings from Bus Stop and her own silk gloves and stiletto heels (from the collection of Maite Minguez) are displayed alongside a replica of the ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ dress (as worn by Sarah Lefleur in the 2001 TV movie, Jackie, Ethel, Joan: The Women of Camelot, and now owned by Greg Schreiner.) An original brochure for the 1962 gala, and a Franklin Mint doll inspired by Marilyn’s performance, are also featured.

The bedroom where Marilyn died – in the house on Fifth Helena Drive in Brentwood, LA, which she bought just months before and was still decorating – is recreated from police photographs, to uncanny effect.

And finally, a 480-pp catalogue for Marilyn Monroe: America’s Secret can be purchased for 75.00 at the gift shop or directly from the publisher, Maison Templar.
