Marilyn arrived in the UK on July 14th, 1956 – 67 years ago this week – to film The Prince and the Showgirl with Sir Laurence Olivier. She was accompanied by Arthur Miller, whom she had married just two weeks earlier; and they posed for the press alongside Olivier and his wife Vivien Leigh outside Parkside House in Englefield Green, Surrey, which would be home to the Millers for the next four months. (A definitive account of Marilyn’s time in England can be found in Michelle Morgan’s book, When Marilyn Met the Queen.)
Among the photographers present that day was Robert Little, and this image from The Times archive is featured in today’s Sunday Times magazine (dated July 9th, 2023.) The supplement has been famed for its photojournalism since its inception in 1962, and long associated with Marilyn (see here.)
