61 Years Later: Fans Pay Tribute to Marilyn

Fans gathered at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles on Saturday, August 5th, for the annual service hosted by Marilyn Remembered since 1982. (You can rewatch the livestream here.)

Among this year’s guest speakers (full list pictured above) was TV producer Phil Savenick, who presented a short film, Marilyn as Art, compiled from archive materials used in his past documentaries.

Sergio Serrano created a series of lavender-hued graphics for the event, based on Sam Shaw‘s images of Marilyn during the summer of 1957. And for his own fansite, Marilyn Mexico, Sergio turned to one of her final collaborations with photographer George Barris.

Longtime fan Rick Carl was inspired by Bert Stern’s ‘Last Sitting’, when Marilyn posed for Vogue in an elegant black Christian Dior dress.

Artist Olivier Coulon looked back to the ‘subway scene’ from The Seven Year Itch, while Alejandro Mogollo referenced Marilyn’s role in Something’s Got to Give.

And finally, author Gary Vitacco-Robles – who recently added to his Icon series with two further volumes investigating Marilyn’s untimely death – left us with some parting thoughts.
