Magnum Brings ‘PHOTO+FOOD’ (and Marilyn) to Verona

In addition to the Misfits exhibition in Forte di Bard and a Philippe Halsman retrospective in Rome, the Magnum archive features in another Italian gallery this summer. Philippe Halsman’s all-American image of Marilyn eating a hamburger in her car at a drive-through restaurant – originally shot for her first LIFE cover story in 1952 – graces the poster art for PHOTO&FOOD, on display at Eataly Art House in Verona until September 21st, and the accompanying catalogue, available to order here.

Images from Bruce Davidson’s LOOK magazine photo-story showing the Millers and the Montands dining in their bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel (during filming of Let’s Make Love, 1960) are also featured, alongside Elliott Erwitt’s portrait of a radiant Marilyn enjoying dinner and a show at Frank Sinatra’s Cal-Neva Lodge in Lake Tahoe just a few months later, on a weekend break from the gruelling Misfits shoot.
