Marilyn in Jazz: An ‘Audiobiography’ in Andria

Marilyn in Jazz, a musical tribute, is coming to the Auditorium Monsignor Di Donna this Saturday, October 7, as part of the Jazz in Andria festival in Italy’s Apulia region, as Colonnesonore reports.

“This ‘musical biography’ dedicated to Marilyn Monroe is divided into several chapters in which, through the songs of her films and her time, we start from the story of Norma Jeane Mortenson, an ordinary girl abandoned several times, with the great dream of a different life, who then became Marilyn by choice, a new woman, an icon of global success, crushed between the opportunities offered by Hollywood and the fate and hardships of becoming a myth.

These chapters are punctuated by exclusive stories and anecdotes, ironic and romantic, some of which are also very touching, for example when you go through the intimate thoughts of Marilyn, profoundly alone even under the lights of the spotlights of the whole world, at the same time mistress and prisoner of her great success.

Beatrice Zanolini interprets some songs taken from Monroe’s best-known films and other songs of those years – performed with the unpublished arrangements of Gabriele Comeglio, in a jazz and swing key – while some recited anecdotes lead the spectator to live a unique, rich experience of emotions, irony, surprises and passion.

The track list of this special edition of Marilyn in Jazz for Jazz In Andria, in quintet, includes songs taken from famous films such as ‘Bye Bye Baby’ (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) and ‘I Wanna Be Loved By You’ (Some Like It Hot); but also evergreens like ‘When I Fall in Love’, ‘Unforgettable’, ‘Why Don’t You Do Right?’, and many others.

The project came to life in 2012, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Marilyn’s death and was inspired by an audiobook, created by the actress Cinzia Spanò, entitled Marilyn: An Audiobiography, from which one of the songs that are part of of the script.”

The special lineup for this evening at Jazz In Andria sees the participation of a selection of the protagonists of the original project (big band). All great musicians who boast prominent performances and collaborations in the international jazz scene, in particular the great Emilio Soana, former first trumpet and trumpet soloist of the RAI orchestra, to whom many sector magazines have recently dedicated a fitting tribute for the his 80th birthday.
