‘Icon of Style’: Marilyn in Her Own Words (and Pictures)

First published in Australia in April 2023 – and now available worldwide – Marilyn Monroe: Icons of Style is a pocket-sized volume from Harper by Design, part of a series which also features Audrey Hepburn. The cover art – by costume designer Gypsy Taylor – is inspired by Marilyn’s pink Travilla gown from the ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’ number in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Inside there’s a selection of quotes from Marilyn herself – sharing her thoughts on fame, fashion and beauty, love and sex, and life in general – alongside photos by Richard C. Miller, Laszlo Willinger, Frank Powolny, Frank Worth, Bob Beerman, Mischa Pelz, Baron, Ed Feingersh, and more.

Quotes from those who knew Marilyn best – such as husband Arthur, directors Billy Wilder and Joshua Logan, and photographer Bert Stern – are also included.

And finally, eagle-eyed fans will notice that the legs in the two stock photos shown below (at left) aren’t Marilyn’s. This is a minor quibble, however, and overall, MM: Icons of Style is a pithy reminder of her wit and wisdom – and a perfect stocking filler to boot!
