70 Years Later: Marilyn’s ‘Millionaire’ Returns to the Saban Theatre

A multitude of stars turned out for the world premiere of How to Marry a Millionaire at the Fox Wilshire in Beverly Hills in November 1953 (see here.) 70 years later, the same venue – now known as the Saban Theatre) – will screen this classic romantic comedy once again at 7 pm this Saturday, February 24th.

How to Marry a Millionaire premiered on November 4, 1953 with a who’s who of attendees including Monroe, Bacall, Bogart, and Cecil B. DeMille – not to mention Debbie Reynolds, Mitzi Gaynor, Rock Hudson, Shelley Winters and more! Not only was it a star studded premiere for the film, but also the second to premiere in the new technology CinemaScope.

To honour the occasion, we are throwing a party on Saturday, February 24th! The red carpet event will open doors at 5:30pm for all the pre-show festivities including:

  • A book signing with author and historian Elisa Jordan with copies of her new book Hello, Norma Jeane: The Marilyn Monroe You Didn’t Know.
  • The Marilyn Monroe Collection has generously offered to showcase archival items from the film and their personal collection.
  • All guests will receive a commemorative ticket and program.
  • Merchandise, themed cocktails and more will all be available.
  • Following the film, a moderated conversation will be hosted with historians, experts, and special guests to be announced soon.
  • Did we mention the red carpet being rolled out for your arrival at the Saban? It’ll be there just for you!

While we do not have a dress code and want everyone to join us, we do strongly encourage dressing in 50’s fun attire, cocktail fashion, or go all out. More comfortable in jeans? That’s OK too.”
