Cuban emigre Yanier Lopez will launch a solo exhibition, A New Face, at the Santa Clarita Artists Association Gallery (SCAA) in Los Angeles County, California tomorrow, July 20, with an opening reception from 5 pm to 9 pm, The Signal reports. The show is on display through Sunday and next weekend.
Yanier’s work is inspired by celebrity iconography, and he enjoys experimenting with new methods and pictorial styles, including pop art in acrylic, oil, and unique engraving techniques.
The vibrant portrait of Marilyn shown above is seemingly based on a Richard Avedon photo from 1954, while a second work is based on a 1957 image by Sam Shaw.

And finally, the painting shown below – which Yanier describes as his favourite – combines two early 1950s glamour shots by Frank Powolny.
