Eve Arnold Gets ‘Closer’ to Marilyn, and More

Eve Arnold’s newly republished book, Marilyn Monroe, is featured in the latest issue of Closer Weekly USA (dated 11 November, with Ali McGraw on the cover.) The promise of ‘never-before-seen photos’ may raise a few chuckles here, as many of these images are already well-known.

Inside there’s a two-page feature with input from Eve’s grandson, Michael Arnold. ‘Eve’s close relationship with Marilyn allowed her to show a more natural and candid side of her than the more formulaic, flirtatious images captured by many male photographers,’ he says. ‘When she saw the frenzy of books and photos that painted Monroe as little more than a sex symbol and dumb blonde, Eve felt she had to speak out about the Marilyn she knew and cherished.’

Elsewhere, Closer pays tribute to Mitzi Gaynor – Marilyn’s co-star in There’s No Business Like Show Business – who passed away in October.

And finally, singer Christina Aguilera – a longtime Monroe fan – is trying out bombshell glamour.
