Marilyn’s Costume Tests, and More at Heritage Auctions

This striking photograph taken by Inge Morath showing Marilyn in the ‘tree scene’ from The Misfits will go under the hammer at Heritage Auctions this Sunday, November 10, as part of the Photo Legends Type 1 Showcase, featuring prints made from negatives within two years of the picture being taken.

Among the other lots are a photo by Arthur ‘Weegee‘ Fellig, showing Marilyn at Jones Beach Pool on Long Island, while promoting Love Happy in 1949; and a Don Ornitz photo from 1951 (sold for $575.)

UPDATE

Sold for $3,250, Weegee’s 1949 photo attracted the highest bid among the Marilyn-related items, coming second overall to a set photo from Star Wars: A New Hope (1977.) This 1952 photo by Gene Kornman of Marilyn – from her famous ‘potato sack’ shoot, and sent to the Los Angeles Daily Mirror – fetched $2,250, taking fifth place. You can view more results here.
