Two of Marilyn’s most critically acclaimed movies are coming to Lanteren Venster in Rotterdam, with All About Eve showing this Sunday, December 22, at 2:00 pm.
“Filled with suspense, jealousy and the brutal realities of the entertainment industry, keeping you on the edge of your seat … All About Eve is a sharp and compelling story that not only exposes the struggle for fame and recognition, but also explores the dynamics of friendships and the price of success … An undeniable classic that has stood the test of time and perfectly captures the essence of the diva vibe.”
But first, Some Like It Hot is showing in a 35mm print this Thursday, December 19, at 7:00 pm, with an introduction to Marilyn by philosopher Ruby Knipschneer. And if you can’t make it, an early-bird screening is coming up on Saturday, December 28 at 11:30 am, with a Film & Breakfast package available.
“Some Like It Hot is the perfect addition to our DIVA film series, featuring the irresistible charm of Marilyn Monroe in a role that confirms her status as a true iconic diva. Take Billy Wilder’s dry wit, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis’ deadpan expressions, and Monroe’s sex appeal, and you get a hilarious screwball comedy like no other.”
This film series accompanies DIVA, an exhibition at the Kunsthal. First seen at London’s V&A, DIVA includes a version of Marilyn’s ‘Running Wild’ dress from Some Like It Hot. However, it does not appear to be the same costume worn by Marilyn on-screen (see here.)
