‘About Eve’ Brings Marilyn to Monschau

About Eve, a retrospective for photographer Eve Arnold, has opened at the Fotografie Forum in the West German city of Monschau, on display until March 30 – and with free entry, it’s an offer you can’t refuse!

“Eve Arnold is considered one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. In 1951, she was the first woman to become a member of the renowned photo agency Magnum. Her portraits and documentation were already considered icons of photography during her lifetime. The large retrospective includes a selection of works that have never been shown together in this form before. The photographs come from the Magnum archive in Paris and from the Camera photo museum in Turin. Some of the images are being presented in Germany for the first time.

The exhibition includes around 170 works that demonstrate Arnold’s sensitive and curious way of working. In addition to portraits of major stars, the artist also devoted herself to social and sociopolitical issues. The photographs provide an insight into the USA in the 1950s and 60s … Through Arnold’s lens we follow civil rights activists, marines and black communities, among others. Her photographs are always characterised by a humanistic visual language that has lost none of its fascination to this day.”

UPDATE:

Marilyn graces the cover of Arts & Collections International magazine’s Winter 2024-2025 issue, with a 5-page article inside exploring her work with Eve Arnold. She also appears in two spring exhibitions in Italy (see here.)
