French screen legend Simone Signoret is the subject of the latest special issue from Paris Match, part of the magazine’s ‘In the Spotlight’ series. Inside there’s a 16-page feature about Marilyn’s calamitous affair with Simone’s husband, Yves Montand, on the set of Let’s Make Love (1960) – with photos by Bruce Davidson and John Bryson, and text by bestselling novelist Katherine Pancol. Marilyn has also appeared in previous editions on Marlon Brando and the Kennedys (see here.)
“This exceptional actress, the first French woman to win an Oscar, was first and foremost a liberated woman who left her mark on her era. This special edition traces the unique journey of Simone Signoret, from the streets of Montmartre to the bright lights of Hollywood. Rare photos and previously unpublished testimonies reveal a woman who made her life a crusade. From Casque d’Or to Room at the Top, from her passion with Montand to the Monroe affair, navigated with rare dignity, this passionate advocate for great causes never stopped defending her ideals. Toward the end of her life, when cinema was less of an interest for her, she revealed herself as a talented memoirist in Nostalgia Isn’t What It Used To Be. Then, she discovered herself as a gifted novelist with Adieu Volodia. On the 40th anniversary of her death, Paris Match retraces the exceptional journey of a French icon who combined talent, courage, and commitment.”
