Pamela Anderson Goes Back to Glam With Marilyn

Pamela Anderson blossomed from bombshell to indie darling with her award-winning performance in The Last Showgirl, and her embrace of pared-down glamour turned heads on the red carpet. Now she has ditched her flowing tresses for a ‘Monroe Bob,’ as Katie Withington reports for Elle.

“Pamela Anderson just channelled Marilyn Monroe with a dramatic mid-century bob transformation whilst out-and-about in New York City’s Meatpacking District. The Canadian-American actress and model stepped out wearing a polished set of wispy vintage curls and a voluminous quiff-shaped fringe, a huge departure from both her recently pared-back signature style and her coveted ’90s appearance (although, her trademark fine brows are not going anywhere yet).

Anderson’s fresh bob feels quintessentially Marilyn Monroe. It captures the essence of the ‘Italian cut’, which was incredibly popular throughout the mid-to-late ’50s and early ’60s, with the fluffiness and shine of a modern bob’s finish.

‘The ’60s style bob is cut bluntly and raised above the shoulders or at chin length, with minimal layering,’ says professional hairstylist Jack Luckhurst. ‘This retro-inspired style can be worn with soft curls or flipped out for a playful edge — both flattering options at this versatile length.'”

Some of Pamela’s recent fashion choices also suggest how Marilyn (and her Hollywood peers) might have dressed in later life, as Emily Tannenbaum writes for Glamour.

“On May 21, Anderson was photographed in a rose-covered Marni skirt set, completed with a classic headscarf and cat-eye sunglasses combo—and that was just one of the Pinterest-worthy looks from her Naked Gun press tour. That very same day, Anderson also stepped out in the Meatpacking District of New York City wearing a black tweed minidress and stockings, which she paired with a chic pair of oval sunnies and pointed pumps.

As for her hair, the 57-year-old actor served real Marilyn Monroe energy, styling her hair in a bouncy bob with her micro bangs swept away from her face … As she told Vogue, the curls add a ‘playful and romantic’ quality to the chop, which she originally cut for her next dramatic role in Place to Be, also starring Ellen Burstyn and Taika Waititi.

Right now, however, she’s dialling up the glamour to promote her latest film, Naked Gun, an action comedy starring Anderson and Liam Neeson. Throughout this press tour, Anderson has notably re-embraced makeup after years of purposefully going without.

‘I’ve never been opposed to glam, I was only waiting to see what my next incarnation would be,’ Pamela Anderson told Vogue of her most recent style era. ‘Playful and romantic’ sounds like a pretty apt description to me.”
