A publicity shot of Marilyn in River of No Return fronts the May issue of TV-DVD Jaquettes, a French magazine featuring pull-out covers for home videos. Frank Powolny‘s studio portrait shows Marilyn as saloon singer Kay, costumed for ‘One Silver Dollar’, her opening number in Otto Preminger’s Western.

The video cover features a vintage French poster for La Rivière Sans Retour, plus screencaps from the original trailer, showing Marilyn with co-stars Robert Mitchum and Tommy Rettig; and a still photo from the film’s theme song, performed in the final scene.

As noted on the Crazy for Marilyn Instagram page, a colour photo from the same session graced the cover of another French magazine, Festival, back in December 1954 – with Hollywood correspondent Lydia Lane chatting to the star inside. And there’s more – although two of the cover images shown below were flipped (notice Marilyn’s beauty mark on the wrong side!

Marilyn has a long history with TV-DVD Jaquettes, having previously graced the cover three times from 2011-2012 in issues marking 65 years of the Cannes Film Festival, and the 50th anniversary of Monroe’s passing.

Marilyn’s Hollywood peers Jane Russell (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) and Montgomery Clift (The Misfits) have also covered recent issues.

And finally, a selection of past ‘jaquettes’ (watermarked): for Niagara, Blondes, and a rather sleazy documentary, The Last Sessions – watch it with the sound turned down …
