Flowers from fans across the world were delivered to Marilyn’s graveside in Westwood Memorial Park on Sunday, June 1, her 99th birthday.

Elsewhere in Los Angeles, the Marilyn Remembered fanclub held a birthday party at Hollywood Heritage Museum.

The event included a pop-up display of items related to The Misfits, including Marilyn’s annotated script and cowboy boots, recently acquired by collector Scott Fortner.

A dedication ceremony for the Forever Marilyn statue was held at its new location in Palm Springs Downtown Park, as NBC reports. (Incidentally, Marilyn wasn’t ‘discovered’ in Palm Springs, though she did visit a few times – see here.)

On Broadway, the SMASH cast renamed West 45th Street ‘Marilyn Mon-ROW‘; and across the ocean, Piper-Heidsieck toasted Marilyn, who favoured their champagne.

Marilyn Mexico sent greetings with a Bert Stern-inspired numeric; and Spanish artist Alejandro Mogollo unveiled Marilyn playing paddle-ball in her ‘cherry dress’ from The Misfits – also featured in his latest monograph (see here …)

The Al Hirschfeld Foundation showcased Marilyn and her birthday bros, from Andy Griffith to Morgan Freeman; and Peruvian cartoonist Omar Zevallos shared his own tribute.

Author Michelle Morgan chose her 5 top photographs of Marilyn from London’s Trowbridge Gallery collection; and artist David Downton pondered the Monroe mystique.

And finally, husband Joe DiMaggio never forgot Marilyn’s birthdays; and her friendship with photographer Sam Shaw is the subject of a forthcoming book, Dear Marilyn.
