“ADDISON (icily): Claudia dear, come closer.
(She does, and he points)
This is Max Fabian. He is a producer. Go do yourself some good.
CLAUDIA (sighs): Why do they always look like unhappy rabbits?
ADDISON: Because that is what they are. Go make him happy.”
All About Eve is showing at Grassmarket Community Picture House in Edinburgh on Wednesday, July 23, at 7:00 pm sharp (no trailers!)
And now for some background reading: a ‘lost interview’ with George Sanders, who played Addison DeWitt to Marilyn’s Claudia Caswell, is published in the July 2025 issue of UK nostalgia magazine Yours Retro (#89, with Julie Andrews on the cover.)
Roderick Mann spoke with Sanders during the late 1960s, just a few years before his death.

“Los Angeles has changed. One thousand people a day are pouring in, with a corresponding increase in motor cars. And thousands of motor cars belching carbon monoxide into the inverted atmosphere hardly produces Chanel No.5. They estimate that to live there and breathe that smog is equivalent to smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. I prefer to live in Majorca and actually smoke them. That way I’ll be as well off as a non-smoker living in Los Angeles.
I am a highly paid slave, and I know now that I will never become a master. I once had a recording factory in California, and if some wretched employee came to me with a sorry tale I would immediately burst into tears and believe him. You see; I am just not cut out for it. To be a master you need a personality totally different to mine; an ability to manipulate others in a cynical way. No: the most I can now hope for is to be a freed man.”
