‘Some Like It Hot’ at the Montalban Theatre

Some Like It Hot gets a rooftop screening on Saturday, August 9, at the Montalban Theatre on Vine Street in the heart of Hollywood. Doors open at 6 pm, so get in the mood with food, drink and music while you wait for the movie at sunset. (This historic venue was founded in 1926, the same year that Marilyn was born a short distance away.)

“Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot is one of the most timeless classic movies and reigns as one of Monroe’s most essential masterpieces … Even though Monroe takes another role as a blonde bombshell love interest, there are moments in her performance that embody genuine emotion and depth that prove her underappreciated range as a performer.”

The screening is co-hosted with the nearby Pantages Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, where Some Like It Hot: The Musical is now playing through August 17. The 2023 show won four Tony Awards during its Broadway run, and is now on a national tour. (And the Pantages also has a place in Monroe history, as she presented an Oscar there in 1951.)

“While the iconic film with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon leaned on sharp dialogue and black-and-white charm, this stage version bursts with colourful flair and bold themes … Leandra Ellis-Gaston shines as Sugar Kane, bringing a sultry voice and almost enigmatic presence that crafts a unique, star-chasing dreamer far from Monroe’s shadow.”
