Authentic Brands Group (ABG), the owner of Marilyn’s estate, has partnered with Japanese clothing company WIND AND SEA for a limited drop which has sold out on its first day, as Hypebeast reports.
“The collection includes an assortment of t-shirts. Each piece features a different image of Monroe, from classic portraits to moments on the beach. These images are juxtaposed with WIND AND SEA’s bold, minimalist logo, creating a dynamic contrast between vintage style and modern streetwear. The T-shirts come in various colourways and feature the portraits in vibrant hues, featuring the icon’s famous signature intertwined with the WIND AND SEA branding.”
While the T-shirt shown above – using a 1957 beach photo by Sam Shaw – is apt for a brand named WIND AND SEA, other selections appear more random (see below.) A few well-chosen images from Marilyn’s 1954 trip to Japan could make a stronger impact.

At left, Milton Greene’s 1955 portrait of Marilyn wrapped in a white fur coat; and at right, a Bruno Bernard publicity shot for Niagara (1953). Unfortunately, the Bernard photo has been horizontally flipped – an error which dates back to its use on magazine covers of the 1950s and ’60s (see below.)

It’s possible that the original negative was lost, but the magazine prints shown below are presented correctly.
