Another ‘Noirvember’ begins this weekend with Film Noir Fest, a 3-day event at the Plaza Cinema in Weston-super-Mare. Following last year’s screening of Don’t Bother to Knock, Marilyn returns in The Asphalt Jungle, on Saturday, November 1, at 4:50 pm.
“In a smog-choked city somewhere in the American Midwest, an aging criminal, newly released from prison, hatches a plan for a million-dollar jewel heist and draws a wealthy lawyer and a cherry-picked trio of outlaws into his carefully devised scheme.
John Huston directs an incredible cast including Sterling Hayden, Louis Calhern, James Whitmore, Sam Jaffe, and Marilyn Monroe (in her breakout role).
An uncommonly naturalistic view of a seamy underworld, The Asphalt Jungle painstakingly depicts the calm professionalism and toughness of its gangster heroes while evincing a remarkable depth of compassion for their all-too-human fragility, and it showcases a master filmmaker at the height of his powers.
Part of Film Noir Fest 2025’s Heist Noir Siren Strand. Our thanks to Warner Bros. and MGM Studios. Presented in collaboration with BFI Audience Network, Merlin Cinemas and Film Noir UK.”
