A pair of gold-plated earrings worn by Marilyn in this 1953 publicity shot for How to Marry a Millionaire – and in later studio portraits of stars like Jane Russell and Mitzi Gaynor – is featured in a day-long event showcasing costume jeweller Joseff of Hollywood at Julien’s Auctions on Monday, December 8. (A duplicate pair made for Marilyn’s personal use was sold for $81,250 in 2022 – see here.)

Also on offer, a silver-plated bracelet worn by Marilyn in this wardrobe test for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953.) Her revealing costume was unsuitable for dancing, and later replaced by Travilla’s famous pink sheath gown. A few months later, she wore the bracelet again while posing for photographer John Florea, in a promotional shot for How to Marry a Millionaire – accompanying a white Travilla gown from the latter movie. Joseff’s bracelet had previously been worn by another ‘Fox blonde,’ Betty Grable, in I Wake Up Screaming (1941.)

Next up, I’ll be looking at some more Marilyn-related items going under the hammer during the Classic Hollywood showcase on Wednesday, December 10, concluding the 3-day Hollywood Legends event at Julien’s Auctions this week – watch this space…

UPDATE…
Despite reaching bids of $20K+, neither of Marilyn’s Joseff of Hollywood pieces met their reserves. You can read all of my posts on this auction here.
