With this year’s movie awards season now underway, Marilyn’s Golden Globe statuette is now on display at the Four Seasons Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, L.A.
“In celebration of Golden Globes weekend and Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday this year, we are proud to present her original Golden Globe, awarded in 1962. Displayed publicly for the first time, with surrounding floral design by artistic director Jeff Leatham, this rare piece offers a historic glimpse into Hollywood’s golden era.”

Rock Hudson presented Marilyn with her award as World Film Favourite (Female) during the 19th Golden Globes ceremony, held nearby at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on March 5, 1962. Marilyn was honoured for her general contribution to the film industry rather than any specific role, although The Misfits had been released in the previous year.

This category was a descendant of the Henrietta Awards, which had merged with the Golden Globes in 1955. Marilyn also won the Henrietta Award as Best Young Box Office Personality at the 9th Golden Globes in 1952, and was first named as World Film Favourite in 1954. She went on to win a Golden Globe as Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical in 1960 (for Some Like It Hot.)

The World Film Favourite award was eliminated in 1980. Marilyn’s 1962 award sold for $184,000 in 1999 as part of the Christie’s auction, The Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe – and it reappeared at Julien’s Auctions in 2018, fetching a cool $250,000. And while she had no particular connection with the Four Seasons Hotel (aka the Beverly Wilshire), a statue of her famous ‘skirt-blowing scene’ from The Seven Year Itch has greeted visitors since 1987.
