A Marilyn retrospective is coming to Glasgow Film Theatre, as part of the city’s annual film festival.
“Join us in celebrating the legendary life of Marilyn Monroe in the 100th year of her birth, through five films that represent her wit, vulnerability, and a star power that left an indelible mark on cinema.”
Tickets cost just £7 for each of the five Monroe movies. “She is one of the most recognisable film icons there is, but also, the films are brilliant,” GFF26 programme director Paul Gallagher said.

The series begins with Niagara (1953) on Thursday, February 26, at 1:30 pm (replacing The Asphalt Jungle.)
“It sometimes seems like director Henry Hathaway wasn’t sure if Niagara was a lugubrious melodrama or a white-knuckle thriller, but the film is at its best when it hints toward a third option: a lurid, blazingly bright film noir starring Marilyn Monroe in perhaps her unlikeliest role ever — a sexually supercharged femme fatale. ”

Another film from Marilyn’s noir era, Don’t Bother to Knock (1952) follows on Monday, March 2, at 12:20 pm.

Up next is the classic musical comedy, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), on Tuesday, March 3 at 1:15 pm.

Forever popular, Some Like It Hot (1959) is showing on Wednesday, March 4, at 12:40 pm.

And finally, The Prince and the Showgirl (1957), Marilyn’s only British film, is showing in a 35mm print on Thursday, March 5, at 1 pm.
