Marilyn Brings ‘Light and Shadow’ to Warsaw

100 Years With Marilyn: Light and Shadow, a year-long centennial retrospective at Kino Luna in Warsaw, began last month with Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and continues with Niagara on Sunday, April 12, at 5:45 pm.

“We invite you to a unique series devoted to one of cinema’s greatest icons – Marilyn Monroe. In the coming months, we will present eight films from the 1950s and early 1960s that best showcase her extraordinary charisma, comedic talent, and dramatic acting potential. From brilliant comedies and melodramas to a poignant career finale – this overview will allow you to see how Monroe became a legend of world cinema.”

Each screening is preceded by a film lecture, with Patrycja Mucha-Smolińska introducing Niagara, a ‘dark thriller’ in which Monroe stars as  ‘a femme fatale entangled in a dangerous marital intrigue … one of the first roles to demonstrate her on-screen magnetism and dramatic potential.’

Still to come are How to Marry a Millionaire in May, and The Seven Year Itch in June. After the summer break, this series resumes in September with Some Like It Hot, followed by Bus Stop in October, The Prince and the Showgirl in November, and The Misfits in December.

And finally, Polish fans may also be interested in A Year With Marilyn, another ongoing retrospective at Kino Kosmos in Katowice – with another film noir classic, The Asphalt Jungle, showing on April 23; and Niagara on May 22.
