Some Like It Hot is showing at the Sag Harbor Cinema on Long Island, New York, on Friday, April 10 at 7 pm, as part of a week-long series, Nobody’s Perfect: Billy Wilder’s Comedies. The screening will be introduced by Foster Hirsch, author of Hollywood and the Movies of the Fifties.
“Wilder wanted Monroe to play Sugar, a naïve showgirl (hardly a change of pace), because he knew she could play the part better than anyone else. And indeed, Monroe performs expertly the kind of role she wanted to get beyond … As Wilder knew she would, Monroe protects the material from becoming smutty or salacious. Her joie de vivre is, as ever, uplifting. Although she looks heavier than in any other film, and a hint of sorrow seems to emanate from the actress herself rather than her character, Monroe is irreplaceable.”

Across the ocean in England, Some Like It Hot is showing at Cultplex in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, on Saturday, April 11, at 1 pm.

And back in the USA, Some Like It Hot is showing in the Starlight Room at the Rose Theatre in Port Townsend, Washington, on Sunday, April 12, at 3:30 pm and 7:05 pm – with Gentlemen Prefer Blondes coming up on April 26, as part of a Classic Comedies series.
