Marilyn’s Subway Dress Inspires Britain’s Sewing Bees

In the latest episode of BBC1’s The Great British Sewing Bee, broadcast last night, contestants were tasked with creating a dress inspired by Bill Travilla’s famous white pleated silk halter-neck dress, popularly known as the ‘subway dress’ and worn by Marilyn in The Seven Year Itch (1955.) Even with pre-pleated material, this was a difficult challenge for the sixth season’s semi-final. (If you’re handy with a sewing machine, check out these similar patterns at The Foldline.)
