After The Misfits wrapped in October 1960, Marilyn invited her favourite photographer from the Magnum agency, Eve Arnold, to shoot publicity photos with her in Los Angeles. It was their only studio sitting together, and lacked the dynamism of Arnold’s usual reportage – while Marilyn’s efforts to recreate her pin-up heyday couldn’t conceal her weariness. Most of these photos remained unseen until the 1980s, when Arnold published her bestselling monograph on Marilyn. Among the highlights was a series where she poses nude under silk sheets, exuding a mature sensuality. The French e-zine Crazy for You devotes its latest issue to this session, while also taking a look at various editions of Arnold’s book here.
