60 Years Ago: Marilyn and Yves on French TV

Marilyn’s explosive affair with Yves Montand rocked both their marriages and was the talk of the movie capital. Sixty years later, their ill-fated romance has been recalled in Paris-Match and Yours Retro; and tonight at 9:05 pm, Sylvain Bergère’s documentary, Two Couples in Hollywood, will be screened on French TV.

“In 1960, Yves Montand triumphed on Broadway and on the most beautiful American stages and Simone Signoret is preparing to receive an Oscar. For their part, Arthur Miller is a renowned playwright and Marilyn Monroe, a world famous star. The two couples, at the top of their game, are preparing to share their daily life in Hollywood, because Monroe and Montand will shoot together in The Billionaire (aka Let’s Make Love), a film by George Cukor. The four stars are idealists and believe in a better world, but adultery and the Hollywood machine will shatter their dreams.” – Tele-Loisirs
