Remembering Joe DiMaggio at Isola delle Femminine

Marking 23 years since his death in 1999, the Casa Museo Joe Di Maggio in Isola delle Femminine, a town near Palermo, Sicily, will be open to the public on March 8, and then on March 12-13, from 10 am-1 pm. Joe’s parents, Rosalia Mercurio and Giuseppe DiMaggio, left their home in 1902 for a new life in Martinez, California, where Joe was born in 1914.

The museum will display a collection of photos and memorabilia related to all aspects of Joe’s remarkable life and career in baseball, including (of course) his marriage to Marilyn. After their divorce in 1955, Joe travelled to Isola delle Femminine, and had hoped to return while visiting Rome in 1993 – but sadly, illness prevented him from making the trip.
