‘Marilyn: Woman of Today’ in France

A new feature-length documentary in French, Marilyn: Woman of Today, will be broadcast on the France 5 channel next Monday, April 18, at 9 pm. Rather like the recent CNN docuseries, Reframed: Marilyn Monroe, the programme looks at Marilyn as a woman ahead of her time, and prefiguring the #MeToo movement, with commentary from Anna Strasberg, who inherited Marilyn’s personal effects from her late husband, Lee Strasberg; Carole Amiel, widow of Yves Montand; actresses Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani and Anna Mouglasis; filmmaker Céline Sciamma; author Leila Slimani; and cartoonist Luz (author of Hollywood Liars, a graphic novel inspired by The Misfits and its tragic backstory.)

Directed by Raphaëlle Baillot and Céline Chassé, Marilyn: Woman of Today is part of the documentary series, Le Doc Stupéfiant. (Monroe fans can also look forward to another French-made documentary, Marilyn, Her Final Secret, in June.)

UPDATE: Marilyn: Woman of Today has now been uploaded to YouTube (with English subtitles.)
