70 Years Ago: The ‘My Marilyn’ Party

1952 was a turning point in Marilyn’s career. After years of pin-ups and B-movies, she had survived the ‘scandal’ of a nude calendar, graced the cover of LIFE, and was dating baseball legend Joe DiMaggio. On August 3, musician Ray Anthony threw a party in her honour at his Sherman Oaks mansion, where he performed his latest single, ‘My Marilyn.’

The latest issue of French e-zine Crazy For You takes a closer look at this ‘only in LA’ event, including the celebrity guests who attended, and the famed pink cut-out dress Marilyn wore to this and several other public outings, designed by Dorothy Jeakins for her steamy role in Niagara.
