Actress Stella Stevens, who has died aged 82, was briefly touted as ‘the New Marilyn’ in the early days of her career. At twenty, divorced with a young son, she got her first break playing Cherie in a college production of Bus Stop, and went on to star in The Nutty Professor, The Ballad of Cable Hogue, and The Poseidon Adventure.
