Marilyn’s ‘Untold Story’, Retold (and Reissued)

The latest Monroe magazine special to hit US newsstands, Marilyn: Her Untold Story, features Gene Kornman’s classic 1953 ‘gold lamé dress’ portrait of Marilyn on the cover. If the contents seem familiar, that’s because it’s an updated version of another magazine released several times over the last few years, most recently in 2022 – albeit with a different cover (see here.)

The latest edition includes new features covering Marilyn’s fellow ‘tragic blondes’, celebrity imitators, and her impact on culture today – with a surprise mention of Greg Schreiner, president of Marilyn Remembered, and his extensive costume collection.

It’s a good read overall, and filled with great photos. However, the chapters dealing with Marilyn’s alleged lovers and her untimely demise are overly speculative; a selection of Marilyn’s famous quotes includes a few fakes (shown below); and the inclusion of a photo of her dead body – albeit covered in a blanket – has been slated by fans.
