Marilyn Makes a Comeback on Forbes’ Dead Celebrities List

Marilyn has reappeared on the annual Forbes list of the Highest Paid Dead Celebrities for the first time since 2020 (see here.) Among 12 other icons, she is tied with golfer Arnold Palmer in final place. This year’s top earner is Michael Jackson, with the only other woman on the list, singer Whitney Houston, ranked seventh.

Undoubtedly, the 60th anniversary of Marilyn’s death in 2022, and all its publicity – for better or worse – helped to spur this year’s comeback.

Forbes credits Marilyn’s $10 million earnings (increasing her 2020 gross by $2 million) to licensing and merchandising deals brokered by Authentic Brands Group, the owners of her estate. These include an NFT collection with Zeblocks, beauty products from KISS, and a lingerie line with Fleur du Mal.

And looking ahead to 2024, ABG recently announced a new venture with Poetic Brands, with apparel featuring Marilyn, Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali to launch by next autumn.
