Golden Globe Nominees Revisit Marilyn’s Hollywood

Charles Melton, model turned star of TV’s teen soap opera, Riverdale, was recently nominated for a Golden Globe as best supporting actor for his role in May December. Photographed by Juergen Teller for a W Magazine cover story, Charles poses in front of a Marilyn poster outside the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard (although why he’s clutching two stalks of broccoli is anyone’s guess.)

The image on this poster shows Marilyn signing her name in cement outside the Chinese Theatre in 1953, but Jane Russell – her co-star in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes – has been cropped out. In 2022, on the 60th anniversary of Marilyn’s death, one of the venue’s six screens was dedicated as the Marilyn Monroe Theatre.

UPDATE: In the same issue, Barry Keoghan – Golden Globe-nominated as best actor for Saltburn – reveals his cinematic crush: “Marilyn Monroe. I’ve got a type, and it is Marilyn Monroe.”
