‘Some Like It Hot’ in France

Some Like It Hot is showing at Ciné Monts in the coastal resort of Saint-Jean-de-Monts, Western France, on Saturday, April 25, at 5:30 pm.

“The delightful duo of Curtis and Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe’s commanding presence on screen, and the magic happens. Mistaken identities, situational comedy, expressive gestures, snappy dialogue, and a brilliant sense of concision make Some Like It Hot a gem of a comedy. Wilder plants barbs everywhere, targeting Prohibition-era America, the Mafia, the FBI, wielding the art of deception with dexterity and, above all, infectious relish. A lighthearted variation on cross-dressing, and by far on homosexuality, Some Like It Hot is also a deeper reflection on machismo and sexuality, strikingly modern.”

And on Thursday, April 30 at 8:30 pm, Some Like It Hot is showing at the Beaumont Palace in Beaumont-sur-Oise, Northern France. This free event – hosted by students from Évariste Galois High School – includes a discussion about the Marilyn Monroe: 100 Years exhibition in Paris, an hour’s drive away.
