Marilyn Movie Retrospective in Derby

A weekly film series, Marilyn: Celebrating the Centenary of an Icon, is showing at Derby QUAD on Sundays at 1 pm throughout May, with each screening featuring an introduction and post-film screening.

“Join us for a month of Marilyn! We are celebrating the centenary of Marilyn Monroe with a five film season running throughout May. Five films that showcase the many sides of Marilyn. Early thrillers like Don’t Bother To Knock and Niagara see the star in ascendancy while the loveable comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes sees the iconic Monroe image arrive on the big screen. We show her range in Bus Stop, where she give a cracking performance and then end the season on the stone cold classic Some Like It Hot.”

And on Tuesday, May 26 at 10:15 am, QUAD is hosting Morning Coffee With Gail Crowther – author of Marilyn and Her Books, published on May 7 – at the Museum of Making, as part of Derby Book Festival.

“Derby is the place to be to celebrate the life of Marilyn Monroe in May, in what would have been her 100th year of life.

Join Gail Crowther at Derby Book festival as she delves into Marilyn’s personal collection of books and recounts some of her incredible memories, like the time Monroe shared an apartment with Shelley Winters in West Hollywood, where they entertained Dylan Thomas and Christopher Isherwood for drinks, after which Monroe arranged for Thomas to meet his childhood hero, Charlie Chaplin.”
