Niagara is showing at Sag Harbor Cinema on Long Island, New York, at 8pm on Monday, June 1 – Marilyn’s 100th birthday – as part of a Summer Noir film series.
“Sag Harbor Cinema turns its focus this summer to film noir – one of Hollywood’s most seductive and ever-evolving languages. Spanning the shadow-soaked fatalism of the 1940s and ‘50s to its sharper, colder reinvention in the late 20th and 21st centuries, SHC’s Summer Noir series traces the genre’s evolution from its classic roots to modern incarnations.
NIAGARA (1953): a lurid Technicolor thriller that brings sexual obsession and betrayal to the surface. Directed by Henry Hathaway, the film helped cement Marilyn Monroe’s star persona while also revealing the darker, more dangerous edge that made her such a magnetic screen presence. Set amid the roar of Niagara Falls, the film transforms one of America’s great honeymoon destinations into a landscape of jealousy and paranoia.”
On a lighter note, How to Marry a Millionaire is showing at the Carolina Theatre – also in its centennial year – in Durham, NC, on Wednesday, June 3, at 7pm.
“Lauren Bacall, Betty Grable, and Marilyn Monroe dazzle as three women pursuing New York’s richest bachelors. From luxurious apartments to glittering social events, their charm, wit, and playful ambition make every scene shine. Monroe’s magnetic screen presence, Bacall’s sophistication, and Grable’s comedic brilliance create a trio of unforgettable performances. Nominated for three Oscars for Cinematography, Costume Design, and Art Direction, this screening celebrates what would have been Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday, honoring her iconic star power and timeless charisma in one of her most beloved comedies.”

Marilyn’s first venture into noir territory, The Asphalt Jungle, is showing at the Historic Artcraft Theatre in Franklin, Indiana, at 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 4.
“Come celebrate the darker side of cinema as part of Bleak Week … The Asphalt Jungle originally screened at the Artcraft alongside in 1950, on December 12 and 13. Directed and co-written by Hollywood legend John Huston, The Asphalt Jungle sets the template for the modern heist movie. Beautiful cinematography is paired with crackling performances from Sterling Hayden and others – including an early appearance from Marilyn Monroe. Nominated for four Academy Awards, The Asphalt Jungle is one of the best crime films in all of cinematic history.”
And finally, Some Like It Hot – the 1959 comedy classic which partly spoofs the gangster genre – is showing at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA on Sunday, June 13, as part of a Pride Film Series.
“The sheer density of reversals—the number of ironies per cinematic square inch—not only keeps the laughs coming, and coming on thematic point, it pumps Some Like It Hot full of momentum, continually refreshing the drama, like a palate cleanser for our attention spans.” – Sam Wasson
