All About Eve (1950), the Oscar-winning backstage drama which gave Marilyn one of her first notable roles, is coming to two UK cinemas this weekend.
- The Welfare, Swansea, Wales: Friday, August 14 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm
- Showroom Cinema, Sheffield: Sunday, August 16 at 3:00 pm, as part of a double bill exploring the pressures on women in the entertainment world to retain their youth and beauty. The screening is preceded by a short film, Sonia Honey (2026), and followed at 6:00 pm by Death Becomes Her (1992.)
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the 1953 musical comedy which confirmed Marilyn as a Hollywood superstar, is also coming to UK cinemas.
- Windmill Cinema, Littlehampton, West Sussex: Saturday, August 15 at 5:00 pm. A centennial tribute to Marilyn as part of this year’s Chichester International Film Festival, which also includes a prior screening of The Misfits (1961) at Chichester Cinema on Thursday, August 13 at 10:45 am.
- Pictureville Cinema, Bradford: Sunday, August 16 at 1:15 pm, as part of a Technicolor Summer series.
- Aber Arts, Aberystwyth, Wales: Friday, August 21 at 5:30 pm.
And finally, Niagara (1953) is showing at the Garden Cinema in London on Sunday, August 23 at 2:30 pm. This screening is hosted by Sarah Bailey as part of the Fashion Film Club series, and will be followed by a Q&A with Andrew Wilson, author of a new biography, I Wanna Be Loved By You.
