Marilyn appears in the August 2026 issue of UK nostalgia magazine Yours Retro (#104, with John Wayne on the cover), as part of ‘Calling the Shots,’ a four-page article profiling nine women who turned the tables on Hollywood’s male elite. Among them are Marilyn’s early co-stars Constance Bennett and Barbara Stanwyck, and later rivals Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor.
Elsewhere, Yours Retro looks at the stormy life of Sterling Hayden, leading man in The Asphalt Jungle (1950) – which gave Marilyn a breakout role, although they shared no scenes together.
And finally, a reader asks ‘whatever happened to’ Gardner McKay, star of TV’s Adventures in Paradise. He reportedly turned down a role in Marilyn’s last film, Something’s Got to Give (1962), before leaving acting behind. He may have been mooted for the hunk stranded on a desert island with Marilyn. That part went to Tom Tryon – but of course, the movie was left unfinished.
