Remembering Marilyn’s Silver-Screen Chic (and More) in Paris

Niagara is showing at the Nouvel Odéon in Paris on Tuesday, October 20 at 8:00 pm, as part of a film series exploring Marilyn’s on-screen style.

“As part of the Marilyn Costume Cycle, conceived and hosted by Céleste Touboul Durante and programmed in Parisian independent cinemas, the Nouvel Odéon is pleased to host Céleste Touboul Durante, a film costume expert. and host of the podcast Profession: Costumière (‘Profession: Costume Designer’), which gives a voice to the women who create costumes for film and television. During the session, Céleste will give a presentation on Marilyn Monroe’s relationship with designer Dorothy Jeakins.”

The series will continue with River of No Return (Les 3 Luxembourg, November 3); The Seven Year Itch (Le Saint Germain des Prés, November 17); and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (Saint-André des Arts, December 1.)

In all three films, Marilyn’s costumes were designed by Travilla. However, the gown worn by Marilyn in the closing number for River of No Return (1954) was a customised version of a Helen Rose design worn by Betty Grable in Coney Island (1943.)
