Will Marilyn Return to Doctor Who?

Marilyn has never appeared on the long-running British sci-fi TV series, Doctor Who, although the 2010 special episode, ‘A Christmas Carol,’ featured a comedic subplot in which the time-travelling hero – then played by Matt Smith – accidentally marries her (see here), and she even has an entry on Tardis Data Core, the Doctor Who Wiki. Actress Jodie Whittaker, who became the first female Doctor in 2017, has now suggested another possibility for Marilyn to feature on the show – and one more attuned to the real woman behind the dazzling image, as MSN reports.

“Appearing on Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour on BBC Radio 6 Music, the actress was asked which historical figure she’d like to feature in a future episode of the BBC One show. ‘I’m going to answer it as me,’ she said. ‘Instinctively, as a kid, I watched every Marilyn Monroe film. I think I watched Some Like It Hot probably like a thousand times as a kid. I just think the idea of… not necessarily being in her presence to have a conversation but just to watch someone who – the world gave her an identity but her own identity was very different, and I think that that is so sad and so poetic in a way, and kind of heart-breaking and kind of magical, and I think I’d like to see her.'”
