The Imperial Hotel, where Marilyn and Joe DiMaggio stayed while visiting Tokyo in 1954, will be rebuilt in a 15-year project estimated to cost ¥200 billion to ¥250 billion, in anticipation of a post-pandemic tourism boom, the Japan Times reports.
A detailed account of the DiMaggios’ trip has been published here by the same publication, and you can also read a vintage newspaper article, headlined ‘Typhoon Marilyn Comes to Tokyo.’
