August is the saddest month for many of Marilyn’s fans. But on the 59th anniversary of her passing, blogger Megan Monroes reminds us that there are many other significant events associated with Marilyn in August. She would work on some of her best movies – including The Prince and the Showgirl, Some Like It Hot and The Misfits – during August. Some of her most memorable public appearances – such as the ‘My Marilyn’ party thrown by bandleader Ray Anthony in 1952, and her 1955 visit to the small town of Bement, Illinois to pay tribute to Abraham Lincoln – also occurred in August. And finally, her August 1950 photo session with Edward Clark at Griffith Park was rejected by LIFE magazine at the time, but now holds pride of place in its vast archive.
