A burial crypt neighbouring Marilyn’s final resting place at Westwood Memorial Park is up for sale, the Wall Street Journal reports. Two spaces down from Marilyn, the plot was purchased in the 1990s by theatrical composer and lyricist Jerry Herman (Hello Dolly!, Mame, La Cage Aux Folles.) However, when Herman died in 2019 he was buried in New Jersey and, according to god-daughter Jane Dorian, his family now wants to sell the plot for at least $2 million.
This is not the first time that crypts surrounding Marilyn’s have garnered financial interest. Most notably, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner was buried in the plot next to hers in 2017; and in 2020, it was reported that another Monroe fan, John V. Thill – an author of business textbooks – had decided to sell an adjacent plot after settling in Florida.
Thill’s space was put on offer first for $890,000, and later purchased for $475,000 by actor turned producer Jonathan Baker, as reported here.
