As Jennifer Gates (daughter of Microsoft founder Bill Gates) prepares to wed Nayel Nassar this weekend, the Journal News looks back on other notable couples who tied the knot in Westchester County, N.Y.
“The Hollywood superstar and her playwright husband were quietly married at the White Plains courthouse by a city judge on the evening of June 29, 1956. According to a description in The New York Times the following day, Monroe wore ‘a sweater, a skirt and no hat. Mr. Miller wore a blue suit, white shirt, but no tie.’ Their ceremony lasted less than 5 minutes.
On July 1, the couple held a Jewish ceremony and wedding reception for 25 guests in the Waccabuc home of Miller’s literary agent, Kay Brown. The home had a beautiful garden and outdoor pool where Brown routinely entertained friends and neighbors that included Tallulah Bankhead and Benny Goodman.”
