Andre de Dienes’ photos of Marilyn at Tobay Beach, N.Y. in 1949 are featured in the latest issue of biannual style mag Arena Homme Plus, in a lavish feature on the history of erotica. The layout pays homage to the girlie magazines Marilyn graced in her pin-up days. Incidentally, she wore a white bathing suit (covered here with Keith Haring-style doodles.)
The issue also boasts a photo essay about the 1980s London club culture. Model Els Wright appears as a Marilyn impersonator recreating the ‘subway scene’ from The Seven Year Itch, similar to lookalikes of that era such as Pauline Bailey and Kay Kent.
Another ‘behind-the-scenes’ shot is reminiscent of Richard Avedon’s so-called ‘Sad Marilyn’ series from 1957. And as you can see below, Els’ look is a remarkable transformation!
