‘Happy Birthday Mr President’: Guestbook, Photos and Footage Set for Auction

A treasure trove of items relating to the Democratic fundraiser at Madison Square Garden on May 19, 1962 goes under the hammer at Doyle Auctions in New York next Thursday, October 13, with an estimated price of $40,000-$60,000. From the estate of entertainment lawyer and DNC co-Chairman Arthur B. Krim and his wife, Dr. Mathilde Krim – who hosted the after-party at their home on East 69th Street – the archive includes a guestbook signed by Marilyn, Isidore Miller (who accompanied her that evening), President John F.  Kennedy and his brother Robert (the Attorney General), over three pages; and footage of Marilyn singing ‘Happy Birthday Mr President,’ gifted to Arthur B. Krim by Stephen Paley, producer of ABC News’ 20/20, in 1980; as well as images captured by White House photographer Cecil Stoughton that evening, and three other guestbooks.

UPDATE: The collection was sold for $31,500.
